This expressive form uses an applied technique that borrows from the techniques of Ballet, Jazz, Modern, and fuses other world dance forms. In Lyrical Dance, the quality of the movement is closely connected to the quality of the music and the interpretation of the lyrics.

This dance form possesses a fluid quality, but also uses the dynamics and accents of the music to convey the emotions of the song and communicate the story to the audience. This integrated form allows for freedom of self-expression. Lyrical movement and signature styles can be traced back to such Jazz Artists as Mattox, Luigi, and Gus Giordano and modern choreographers as Alvin Ailey, Jose Limon, Doris Humphrey, and Martha Graham. Today this form is captured on film, video, and live performances.
